Jason Welle, O.F.M., Dean of Studies at PISAI, recently gave a presentation at the “Spring School” of Mu’minūn bi-lā ḥudūd (Believers without Borders) in Marrakesh, Morocco. The conference, entitled “The Study of Islam Today: Contemporary Approaches to Religious Studies” invited select professors of Islamic Studies from around the world to run an in-depth workshop for doctoral students in Islamic Studies and cognate fields. Welle’s presentation, “Islamic Studies: Resources and Techniques of Research in Western Academia,” manifested the dual nature of the conference, discussing methodological and philosophical approaches to the discipline while equipping students with the practical tools they need to advance their research and engage international scholarship. Also presenting at the Spring School, which was run in Arabic and English 29-31 March, were Dr. Paul Heck (Georgetown University), a past invited professor at PISAI, and Dr. Clare Wilde (University of Groningen), who holds a licentiate from PISAI.
