Husayn Summit 2020

Prof. Christopher Clohessy was one of the invited guest speakers at the Husayn Summit 2020 held in Birmingham, England on Saturday 29TH February 2020.
The theme of the summit, attended by approximately six hundred attendees, was ‘Lady Zainab: Female Leadership and Speaking Truth to Power’. Prof. Clohessy introduced the conference, which aimed at raising the level of discourse on critical societal issues, with a lecture on ‘A Zainabian Hermeneutic for Reshaping Society’ and the rest of the conference was taken up by three panel discussions. The panels consisted of current and previous British Members of Parliament (such as Heidi Allen, Gloria De Piera, Jo Swinson, Baroness Warsi, Owen Patterson and Liam Byrne), journalists and broadcasters (such as Zahra Al Alawi, Emily Garthwaite and Myriam Francois) and businesswomen (such as Fatema Dewji). The panels were moderated by journalist and broadcaster Mehdi Hasan and by authoress Shelina Janmohamed, and the conference ended with a reflection by Mehdi Hasan and a closing address by Sheikh Nuru Mohammed.
