Roland Dubertrand

As part of this lecture Roland Dubertrand will present his book Géopolitique des religions (Éditions Le Cavalier bleu, Paris 2019) written with Mrs Valentine Zuber, Director of Studies at the École Pratique des Hautes Études, and Mrs Blandine Chélini-Pont, Professor of Contemporary History at the University of Aix-Marseille.

The author will begin by outlining the ambition of this book, which was to provide an overview of the impact of religions on international relations today. It is difficult to talk about conflict resolution, terrorism, humanitarian assistance, development aid or global issues without mentioning the religious factor. The major religions have developed transnational networks, and religions have also taken a more active role in international organisations. In a way, they have acquired a geopolitical dimension.

Roland Dubertrand is the Coordinator of the PISAI Chair on Mediterranean, Religions and Societies. He has been a Diplomat and former Adviser on Religious Affairs of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
